The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a Christian faith-based organization. Its message is based on the Bible, and its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Peter Drucker, the well-known writer, university professor, and legendary management consultant has called The Salvation Army "the most effective organization in the United States.  No one even comes close to it with respect to clarity of mission, ability to innovate, measurable results, dedication, and putting money to maximum use."

The Salvation Army is well known for their disaster/relief efforts:

-Since 1900 when Galveston was devastated by an unknown hurricane, the Army has become a familiar presence at every major disaster site in the U.S.

-Over $365 million was given to the Salvation Army toward the Katrina effort, second only to the Red Cross, and more than the next two of the top 10 relief agencies combined. During the early stages of Katrina,

-During the immediate aftermath of Katrina, the Salvation Army was serving over 40,000 meals a day and counseling with survivors. By the end of the first month, they had distributed more than 2 million meals, sheltered 80,000 people, and provided emotional care for more than 150,000 survivors. After 5 months of recovery, they had distributed more than 4.5 million meals. Spirtual care has been given to over 286,000 people. The Salvation Army has a long term commitment of $155 million to recovery and relief efforts in the Gulf for the next 10 years.

-The Salvation Army is effectively working in over 110 countries.

What are the advantages of the partnership that exists between The Salvation Army and Hope Force International?

-In any disaster, the need for trained workers is critical. Hope Force International provides a source of trained and informed volunteers who are willing to adjust their schedules in times of crisis. These volunteers support both Hope Force International and the Salvation Army in accomplishing their ministry goals.

-HFI has a nationally signed Memorandum of Agreement with the Salvation Army, our primary partner for U.S. domestic response, which includes our commitment to conduct joint training events, producing pre-screened, pre-trained volunteers. HFI has deployed many reservists and volunteers into the ranks of the Salvation Army in the aftermath of numerous hurricane seasons, including Hurricane Katrina, and various natural disaster events (such as tornadoes and floods) which have occured throughout the country.

-Some of the service areas into which Hope Force has deployed individuals include: emotional and spiritual caregivers, debris removal, executive administration, mobile feeding units, meal prep, volunteer coordination and warehouse supervision.
